Midsummer Dinner for Kulturepark in Plänterwald

A collaborative of over 30 Berlin and U.S.-based visionaries are thrilled to announce Kulturpark—an innovative public art project that will investigate an abandoned amusement park in East Berlin. In June 2012, Kulturpark will explore these recent ruins as a place for creative exchange, site-specific art, urban design, historic memory, social connection, and public imagination.

Friday June 15,  I will be preparing a dinner for Kulturepark participants on the topic of cycles. We will celebrate the annual summer solstice with a dinner prepared with hand made solar cookers, fresh herbs from the mobile garden, shaved ice and other summer treats. The dinner series is organized by Dinner Exchange Berlin.

My project, called Counterfeit Foods will take place on March 6-9. More on that to come

A taste of home. Food, identity, place and memory in Europe from a historical perspective (19th-20th centuries)

I am pleased to present my recent research on the culture and economy of the East German (GDR) food system at Vrije University, Brussels at the Taste of Home Conference February 9 & 10.  The paper examines the emergence of unique food culture in East Germany through economic constructs and social outcomes of a so called ‘socialist food system.’

   Berlin Stadt Pflanzen- City Plants

The City of Berlin, Senate for City Development and Berlin released a strategy document for the continuation and development of more green open spaces, courtyards, intercultural gardens, and urban agriculture sites  gleaned from citizen participation in a two-day conference held in 2010. The document focuses on, among many things, more citizen involvement in planning and development of green open spaces, funding for garden efforts, focus on biodiversity,  children’s and inter-generational gardens, and support for more urban agriculture and kitchen gardens.
